“Anaconda” is a promotional music video, and Banger of a Track from Trinidadian-American recording artist Nicki Minaj‘s upcoming third studio album, The Pink Print.
The music video for the track was shot in Los Angeles, California by Colin Tilley. The video features a cameo appearance by fellow rapper and labelmate Drake. It premiered in mid August, via Nicki Minaj’s official YouTube VEVO channel.
Following the video’s release, it broke the 24-hour streaming record on Vevo by accumulating 19.6 million views in its first day of release. To further promote the song Minaj performed it live at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards and also performed it at Fashion Rocks and the iHeartRadio Music Festival.
The Banger of a Track was Produced By: Da Internz & Polow Da Don and samples “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lo, in particular the lines: “My anaconda don’t want none unless you got buns, hun”
In 2012, the song was originally recorded by five-time Grammy Award-winning musician Missy Elliott, however due to undisclosed reasons Elliott shelved the track and was then re-recorded by Minaj. The cover art for the single went viral on the web after being revealed. On various digital music stores, the cover is censored with a Parental Advisory label over her backside. The song samples “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot.
