“Black Magic” is the lead music video and first single, from British girl group Little Mix‘s forthcoming third studio album.
Upon release, “Black Magic” was positively received by contemporary music journalists, who welcomed Little Mix’s new ’80s influenced sound. Matt Bagwell of the Huffington Post UK called the single “one of the best pop releases of the year”, complimenting its “killer chorus” and “trademark call to arms chant”, while writing that “Black Magic” is “significantly better” than Britney Spears and Iggy Azalea’s single “Pretty Girls”, which Little Mix co-wrote.
It was written by Camille Purcell, Ruben Franco, Brigitte Muñoz and Ed Drewett. Norwegian production duo Electric, who previously worked on the group’s second studio album Salute (2013), produced the single.
The music video for “Pretty Girls” premiered on May 13, and the song was performed live by Spears and Azalea for the first time on May 17 at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards.
The track was written and produced by The Invisible Men, with additional writing from Maegan Cottone, Azalea and Little Mix. The single is planned to be physically released on Britney’s forthcoming ninth album.
