Nine In The Afternoon CoverNine in the Afternoon” has been confirmed as the first single from the second Panic at the Disco studio album, Pretty. Odd.

The video was filmed on December 20 and December 21. It was the first song written after the band decided to scrap an album worth of songs they had been planning on releasing in the fall of 2007. Panic at the Disco’s first performance of “Nine in the Afternoon” was at Virgin Festival 2007.

According to an ad the concept of the video for the song is “a series of bizarre yet fundamentally recognizable events with the band members”. The video contains “40 extras total and people will be featured as there are different periods, looks, wardrobe and hair changes”. In an MTV interview, it is stated that in the video “there are gratuitous fake mustaches involved and a rather bizarre parade being led by the guys in Panic, who are dressed in what could only be described as ‘Sgt. Pepper’s-meets-ice-fishing’ attire (lots of epaulets and thermal underwear). Each of them also wears a sash printed with the phrase ‘Pretty Odd’.”

The video was directed by Shane Drake, who worked on “I Write Sins Not Tragedies” and “But It’s Better If You Do”. “Nine in the Afternoon” will be released to radio on January 29.

Lyrics for Panic at the Disco – Nine In The Afternoon

[Verse 1]
Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as lovers can, you know
Yeah, we’re feeling so good
Picking up things we shouldn’t read
It looks like the end of history as we know
It’s just the end of the world
Back to the street where we began
Feeling as good as love, you could, you can
Into a place where thoughts can bloom
Into a room where it’s nine in the afternoon

[Pre-Chorus]
And we know that it could be
And we know that it should (Know that it should)
And you know that you feel it too

[Chorus]
‘Cause it’s nine in the afternoon
And your eyes are the size of the moon
You could ’cause you can, so you do
We’re feeling so good, just the way that we do
When it’s nine in the afternoon
Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could ’cause you can, so you do
We’re feeling so good

[Verse 2]
Back to the street, down to our feet
Losing the feeling of feeling unique
Do you know what I mean?
Back to the place where we used to say
“Man, it feels good to feel this way”
Now I know what I mean
Back to the street, back to the place
Back to the room where it all began
(Hey!) Back to the room where it all began

[Chorus]
‘Cause it’s nine in the afternoon
Your eyes are the size of the moon (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
You could ’cause you can, so you do
We’re feeling so good, just the way that we do
When it’s nine in the afternoon
Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could ’cause you can, so you do
We’re feeling so good, just the way that we do
When it’s nine in the afternoon
Your eyes are the size of the moon
You could ’cause you can, so you do
We’re feeling so good, just the way that we do
When it’s nine in the afternoon
[Outro]
(Ooh-ooh-ooh) *applause*
(Hey!)
