Lyrics for Leave the Dirt
Song by Jay Webb

Wash my sins in the river
Let the angels take my soul
Pour one out for all the real ones
Way out where the palm trees grow
Take me back to Alabama
Read them verses grandma knew
When it’s my time to leave this earth
You can leave the dirt on my boots

Leave my bible to my mama
Leave my whiskey to my friends
Leave my middle finger up
To the ones that said that I ain’t shit
Leave my 12 gauge to my brother
Leave that chevy to my dad
Leave my money to my woman
At least whatever I’ve got left
When it’s time for what comes next

Wash my sins in the river
Let the angels take my soul
Pour one out for all the real ones
Way out where the palm trees grow
Take me back to Alabama
Read them verses grandma knew
When it’s my time to leave this earth
You can leave the dirt on my boots

Ain’t no need to clean me up
Ain’t no need for you to cry
6 feet down ain’t where I’m stuck
Send one up into the sky
Blow that smoke until the sunrise
Burn some [?] right off the grass
Ain’t no need to shine me up
The day he finally calls me back

Wash my sins in the river
Let the angels take my soul
Pour one out for all the real ones
Way out where the palm trees grow
Take me back to Alabama
Read them verses grandma knew
When it’s my time to leave this earth
You can leave the dirt on my boots

Leave my bible to my mama
Leave my whiskey to my friends
Leave my middle finger up
To the ones that said that I ain’t shit
Take me back to Alabama
Read them verses grandma knew
When it’s my time to leave this earth
You can leave the dirt on my boots
